Prince Charles tests positive for the coronavirus 'Covid-19'

Prince Charles is the first British royal to test positive for the coronavirus.

Prince Charles, 71, is the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth and the first in line to the British throne. His office confirmed his positive diagnosis in a statement early Wednesday.

A Clarence House representative confirmed the news to Insider on Wednesday, saying the prince was "displaying mild symptoms" but was in good health.

Charles, Queen Elizabeth II's eldest son and heir to the British throne, has "been displaying mild symptoms but otherwise remains in good health," the spokesman said, adding that he has been in self-isolation in Scotland with his wife, the duchess of Cornwall, who has tested negative for the coronavirus.

"The Prince of Wales has tested positive for Coronavirus. He has been displaying mild symptoms but otherwise remains in good health and has been working from home throughout the last few days as usual," the representative said.

"The Duchess of Cornwall has also been tested but does not have the virus. In accordance with Government and medical advice, the Prince and the Duchess are now self-isolating at home in Scotland."

The statement continued: "The tests were carried out by the NHS in Aberdeenshire where they met the criteria required for testing."

Queen Elizabeth II remains in good health after her son Prince Charles has tested positive for COVID-19, Fox News has learned.

“Her Majesty The Queen remains in good health. The Queen last saw the Prince of Wales briefly after the investiture on the morning of the 12th of March and is following all the appropriate advice with regard to her welfare," a Buckingham Palace spokesperson told Fox on Wednesday.

What happens if the prince dies of the new coronavirus 'Covid-19'?

Americans might wonder: Why is this such a big deal? However imperfect the analogy, they should think of this in the same way they would greet news that the vice president of the United States had tested positive.

The Prince of Wales, 71, is Britain's future head of state as King Charles III. He is first in line after his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who turns 94 next month. If anything happens to either of them, his elder son, Prince William Duke of Cambridge, 37, would become King William V.
